Chapter Thirty-Eight
.Chapter Thirty-Eight.
Her eyes looked at me happily and sparkled like jewels.
“Carmella...I really enjoyed today.”
Her eyes sparkled warmly with crimson, making me feel that her happy eyes were more beautiful than any jewel.
“Me too… Dian… Anyway, your mother and father will be surprised because you… bought so many jewelry and fabrics like this… won’t you be reprimanded?”
At my words, Diane smiled with a mischievous expression as she looked at the beautifully wrapped jewelry she had purchased.
“These days, my parents are very active in helping me decorate banquets and find a marriage partner, so I think it will be okay.”
She then said with feigned confusion: "As a young woman, I wanted to do my best. Won't everything I invest now come back to me in the end? It's never a waste.."
She shrugged.
“If I say this, my father will feel sad, but he will say he understands... He is a person who cares about appearance.”
She burst out laughing on her normal face.
I couldn't figure out why I laughed normally when I was with her.
“You're really good at getting out of trouble, but don't put Daddy in too much trouble.”
At that time, I heard a low-pitched voice from behind.
“Yes. Luxury is not what a classy lady should do...it is uncivilized.”
She turned to see who had joined the conversation.
Pale straw-colored hair that was neatly combed.
The eyes are somewhat uncomfortable, have a cloudy azure glass color.
A sharp chin looks a bit fierce.
A middle-aged man I had never seen before.
To be clear, my impression was not positive.
“I see you ladies are having a good time...that's very nice to see.”
I didn't know how to express my feeling when I saw this man talking in a strangely friendly way, but I smelled something dangerous in him.
At that time, before she could even frown, Diane said with a harsh face: “What does this have to do with you? I want you to stop talking to me as if you were close to me... Just hearing you talk to me makes me feel sick.”
I looked to my side and was surprised. Diane's beautiful face froze in disgust, clearly revealing her inner feelings.
There was really intense hostility in her eyes.
But what she added next made me understand everything.
“Count Danube.”
The Count of Danube spoke with a slightly contemptuous but kind smile on his face.
“This is heartbreaking for me as your fiancé. Isn’t it normal for me to be interested in you, my beautiful lady?”
I almost lost my expression and my forehead wrinkled.
The nicknames he called her were very friendly and it seemed like he was talking to his lover and there was never any affection or friendship between them.
Condescending eyes and a gentle smile on his lips.
He very much seemed to be mocking or humiliating her.
As evidence of this, a blush appeared on Diane's face.
I also felt a little disgusted when I saw the humiliating underwear that came as a gift.
How could a human being be so shameless as Satan?.
“Did you just call me your sinner? I think you meant to insult me.”
At those words, the Count of Danube lowered his eyes and pursed his lips in a hesitant manner: “You have a very beautiful face and a beautiful body, but your only flaw is that you are too nervous and proud.”
I couldn't believe my ears.
When it came to Diane, she was so shocked and angry that she opened her mouth and let out a sharp breath.
" What?"
Danube, with cold wrinkles at the corners of his mouth, icy eyes and frightening face, took a few steps towards Dayan and said, “Of course, there is no perfect work in the world. So you need a craftsman to polish you.”
How dare he, what right did he have to say something like that to her?.
I raised my head angrily and had goosebumps when I saw the eyes of the Count of Danube.
His blue eyes were cruelly clouded and looked at her coldly or passionately without emotion.
His eyes look at her and appreciate her as if she were a commodity to be bought, or something.
His eyes are like glass, so cruel and scary.
Diane's face turned pale when she faced him directly.
But I understood.
Even I, who took a step back because I couldn't carelessly enter into other people's business, was trembling.
Even the eyes of Bernard, who was very angry with me and raised his hand, were not that scary.
“If you don’t get away from me now, I will call my family’s knights.”
Diane took a step or two back and spoke in a trembling voice.
She tried to act tough, but she couldn't hide her fear.
Goosebumps appeared on her exposed arms.
Danube paused and a hidden smile appeared on his lips: “Maybe you said that last time… If you have too much pride, you will end up regretting it.”
Diane closed her mouth at those words and looked at Danao with a confused expression.
Her confused and frightened eyes and her frozen, helpless body made me feel like an animal trapped in a trap.
A faint relief could be seen flowing from Danube's cloudy blue eyes as he looked at her menacingly.
The moment I saw that, I felt disgusted and took a step forward.
"Are you threatening someone else's family's daughter? And that's while I watch?"
She stood in front of Diane with a stern face and looked at him.
I felt even angrier as I felt Diane tremble behind me.
I couldn't bear not to show myself and interfere in affairs between a woman and a man, no matter how easy it was to be the subject of bad rumors.
That dirty bastard was enjoying terrorizing Diane.
He smiled at my defense and took another step closer to me.
“I can't do this.. I'm just saying it's better to be careful with everything.”
I could see from his words and actions that he was completely ignoring me.
I tightened my expression, took a step forward, and spoke in a low voice: “If you come close to her or me, I will not remain silent in the name of the Armin family.”
He seemed to be staring at me angrily, but I was just as angry.
What does this man think of Diane? Easy prey caught in a trap that will tear her apart?.
If he does something more rude, I will take action on him somehow, even if it means causing problems for my family.
When I tightened my mouth and looked at him coldly, he seemed to have noticed, and a faint look of madness passed through his eyes.
But it disappeared completely, as if it was an illusion from my eyes.
Danube easily took a step back and shrugged, as if wondering when he had been so scary.
“It breaks my heart that you would criticize my honesty in this way, but I will back off now.”
Then he turned his face and smiled as he looked at the jewels she had bought.
The jewelry Diane bought had not been packed yet and was placed on the table.
“By the way, you like this jewelry… It’s a good taste for young ladies,” he said, tapping it gently with his fingertips.
At the end of these words, he looked at Diane's bare arms behind me and her pale chest, and smiled faintly.
"You know what? Actually, jewelry is more beautiful when it's worn on bare skin."
After appreciating Diane, he spoke as if he was going to strip her naked from the bottom of her feet to her head, so the term licking her with his eyes is appropriate given his disgusting looks.
“I will send you a gift of jewelry soon....I would like to see you wearing it on bare skin.”
Diane lowered her head at those words and trembled indistinctly.
This appearance seems to have satisfied Danube.
It was a strange sight just seeing the woman shaking from head to toe and the man looking like he was going to devour her with his eyes.
When I saw that strange scene, I immediately remembered that all the women dealing with him were a mess.
Now I think I know why.
He was a vampire-like person who preyed on the pain of others.
That's why I reflexively forced my face to stiffen.
"Please stop this and leave! She doesn't like it."
Showing fear to these people is like feeding them.
After I said, Donau took his eyes off Diane and turned his head to me.
His cloudy light blue eyes, resembling glass beads, were filled with clouds and coldness.
“So, this is the first time I've seen you... Even though we didn't get to say hello to each other, it was nice to meet you. Lady Carmilla... Then again see you next time.”
I furrowed my brow.
The sound of my name coming out of his mouth sounded so dark that I felt as if I was being unexpectedly attacked.
Just by saying my name.
Then I felt sorry again for Diane. How did she feel and how did she marry such a terrible person?.
After saying hello, he left with a lot of what he was going to say in his mouth, but he swallowed it.
I saw him leaving and quickly turned to Diane.
Diane had her head down and trembling, unable to even move.
And for some reason, this photo of Diane, wearing a white wedding dress and smiling lovingly, appeared.
In fact, she must have been trembling like this then too.
This must be real.
I suddenly felt sad.
She hugged Diane, who was still shaking.
“You're okay... You're okay... I'm by your side.”
Her fear was clearly conveyed by the trembling she felt from her arms.
Hoping she would calm down, I hugged her a little tighter, buried her head in my arms, and stroked her hair.
How scared I was because I was alone. How painful it was.
'Sorry... Diane... I'm sorry I didn't know what happened to you at that time.'.
My heart ached as I kept thinking about Diane's smile and her wedding day, in contrast to Diane trembling in my arms.
I thought about the girl from the past that I didn't know.
After some time, a female employee from the store approached me.
She was holding hot tea.
“Diane.”
I cautiously called to Diane, who was still pale in my arms.
She slowly raised her head when I was called, but shook her head when she saw the tea the employee brought.
“I don’t want to… I’m not in the mood for tea.”
She could barely stand upright on her own.
But her face remained pale.
“Send those jewelry to Roost’s house yourself.”
It seemed that even the jewels were not able to change her mood now.
She left the store without even looking at the jewelry, saying she needed some fresh air.
As she was catching her breath outside the store, she momentarily tripped on the heel of her shoe and slipped.
She was startled and I helped her up. She could barely stand upright and muttered in pain: “I feel dizzy.”
She closed her mouth for a moment, grabbed something beside her, and then spoke again.
Her voice was muffled to avoid showing her trembling and fear.
“Why me?… I don’t know why I had to face him like this...”
Her eyes turned red as she spoke in a low, forceful tone.
As if someone had hit her.
However, contrary to my expectations that she would shed tears quickly, she never did.
Diane was silent, looking at the ground as if thinking about or holding on to something.
I didn't know what to say to calm her down, so I quietly stood next to her.
