Chapter Forty-Seven
.Chapter forty-seven.
A kite flew across the bright blue sky.
It was too far away.
“It seems that autumn is approaching.”
She said this as usual in a spontaneous way, but she trembled when she tried to talk to Risdelle and could not find her because today she did not take her with her.
I wasn't used to changing into normal clothes, leaving Rhysdale, and going out on my own.
I was also worried because I didn't have a driver with me.
But I remembered what Max said… “It is very difficult to trust people and also not to trust” and that somehow gave me courage.
I don't know why, but thinking about those words, I felt a warmth in my heart and a desire to trust this person.
It was a strange feeling, but it was different from the illusory feeling I had towards Bernard when I first met him. It was not at that time that it was leading me to destruction.
“I can back out at any time... just don't get greedy... I won't go crazy like I did back then.”
It is foolish to repeat the same mistake.
I swore into my trembling chest and raised my head and looked away.
I saw the square... Then I turned to him.
His eyes were speaking clearly, and suddenly my heart was beating fast.
His beautiful green eyes looked at me as he stood at the fountain.
Although there were many people, I could recognize him at a glance among them.
Although he was taller than the others, his waist was slim and his shoulders were broad, which was why he caught everyone's attention.
A smile spread across my face without me even realizing it.
'What should I do?'.
Regardless, I actually liked his appearance. He looked so special.
It was enough that he immediately looked at me from among the small number of people in the wide square.
Just the fact that he turned his head to look at me made my heart tremble as if an arrow had pierced me.
My steps became faster without me realizing it.
I didn't even care that my shoes were high heels.
When I almost reached it, my speed became very slow. The hem of my skirt fluttered.
I got stuck between the cracked stone sidewalks. My body faltered.
When I was about to fall, I saw someone rushing towards me.
The scent of fragrant flowers spread beautifully as it spreads into the evening.
Then I felt a hand holding my waist firmly and securely.
I can smell Max.
The sunlight was dazzling like a breath in a cool autumn breeze.
“Is there a problem? Why are you walking so fast? You almost fell and hurt yourself.”
His gentle, worried green eyes look at me.
Oh, let me admit it. I like him.
He looked around with embarrassed eyes and said: “Oh my God, all the flowers I wanted to give you were scattered.”
Finally, I burst out laughing and said, “I’m fine....The sight of it fluttering in the sky was so beautiful that I felt as if I had actually received it.”
“And…thank you for catching me,” I muttered, my face a little red.
His hands were holding my waist tightly and his hard chest so close that I felt ashamed.
Max seemed to notice as well and suddenly turned his head to the side: “Your ears are red.”
He backed away politely and quickly: “I've left my hand on you for too long. Sorry.”
At that time when he tried to remove his hand, I pulled my skirt a little, I grabbed my skirt in amazement.
It was because the fabric of my skirt had caught in Max's frilly sleeve cuffs.
“Oh.”
My ankles were exposed.
I was confused and tried to untie it somehow.
“Ah… why did you get stuck like that….”
Max was so embarrassed that he didn't know where to put his hands and his hand paused mysteriously in the air.
Then suddenly, as if he had decided something, he gently stopped me: “Miss, step aside for a moment… it could be dangerous.”
When I backed away in confusion, he took a knife from his back pocket and cut off his sleeve.
"Oh, my God!"
The cufflinks, which appeared to be of high quality, fell to the floor in one fell swoop.
“Oh, you didn't have to go that far,” she exclaimed.
But Max shook his head: “No. It’s better this way than causing you more trouble for even a second.”
I made a sad face and said with a frown: “But as it is, I feel even more sorry for you about losing those precious buttons.”
He wasn't the reason I fell in the first place, but he helped me.
No matter how much I thought about it, I felt sorry, so I hesitated and followed him and he had already led the way, but then I thought of something and ran a few steps to tell him: “Ah. Yes. Can I choose cufflinks and a shirt and give them to you as a gift? The cufflinks will go with this shirt.”
Hesitation and embarrassment appeared on Max's face when he heard my words.
He seemed to be thinking about how to refuse without hurting my feelings.
Nervously, I grabbed his sleeve and looked at him. He was taller than me by about an inch or an inch and a half, so I turned to him and begged: “Please, Max... please allow me to give you a gift that suits you and pleases you.”
His eyes narrowed as he stared into mine with a pair of beautiful green eyes.
Do you think I'm a troubled woman? My heart sank, and my hand that was holding his sleeve relaxed.
Bernard was like that... He stares at me coldly every time I ask him for something.
It was more intense than words and made me feel pathetic.
Then, to my surprise, I heard a small laugh from him. When I looked up at Max's unexpected laugh, his eyes sparkled like crescent moons.
His smile is full of love and clearly conveys his feelings. Heat suddenly rose in my cheeks.
His transparent eyes that turned pale green in the sunlight, etched into my heart.
I felt like I would remember this scene as vividly as the paintings for a long time.
He spoke to me and I was mesmerized by his unexpectedly beautiful smile: “If it pleases you, as a gentleman, I will accept.”
Max found himself strange.
He's not the type of person who can't say no.
Rather, he is accustomed to command and control.
But when that thin, light hand grabbed his sleeve and looked at him, he had no choice but to accept as if he was under a spell.
He thought her face was white and soft and looked childish.
Her purple eyes looked at him in a way that tickled the heart.
He laughed without knowing it, and thought that he had no choice, no choice but to submit.
And he acquiesced to her.
“If it pleases you, as a gentleman, I will accept it.”
Contrary to the first impression of her beautiful and cold face, Carmilla was curious and kind.
“Sorry, there are too many people.”
I said this as I held her hand. Her eyes widened in surprise and then her face turned red and she turned her head away. I felt a nice feeling when I held her hand.
She said shyly: “Yes…yes……!”
The world was kind and beautiful when I was with her.
It's a weird thing...other people's hands always disgusted me, but hers were as soft as cotton candy.
“Your hands are so small and delicate.”
Carmela muttered with a red face: “No... Max, your hand is too big and too warm.”
He slowed down and laughed when he realized Carmilla was pacing to keep up with his pace.
“Hmm I see... I never thought about the size of my hand... but it's definitely bigger than yours.”
They laughed a lot today... but he had no fear of appearing weak or being a little nervous.
He was like this just because there was a little bird-like woman next to him.
Although he thought it was a very strange sensation, he was happy about it.
At that time, Carmela spoke in an excited voice: “Hey Max… If you don’t mind, why don’t we try this bread?”
Max looked at her to see what she was referring to.
It was bread sold by a street vendor.
It's quite unique as the bread was shaped like different musical letters and covered in honey.
Next to him he saw book-shaped bread, covered in a lot of sugar, with white granules sparkling in the sunlight.
It seemed like a lot of sugar had been sprinkled on it, and the white granules sparkled in the sunlight.
“It's a shortbread.”
Carmela explained with flushed cheeks: “It is a tradition of this street. It is a street where musicians, painters, writers, and poets flock, and it is said that this bread was made in memory of them.”
Then she whispered softly, as if she was a little embarrassed: "Actually, I've always wanted to taste it but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to try it. I always come to this street with maids and knights... and it's impossible to buy and eat it on the street without someone watching and hearing."
Max heard these words and made up his mind: “Then let's try to buy it today.”
Accompanied by Carmela, he went to the street vendor, paid roughly, and returned with two loaves of bread.
Two loaves of bread came in the shape of a treble clef.
“If the others find out I ate this, they will faint,” Max thought as he awkwardly held the paper-wrapped bread so as not to get his hands dirty with honey.
He didn't even like to sit in the gym, so he would sit on a towel, and he didn't like holding people's bare hands, so he would walk around with gloves on.
Of course, this kind of street food was something Grandpa would eat, but he never thought of putting it in his mouth.
He looked at the bread suspiciously.
At that time, he heard a sound of applause and admiration coming from Carmela: “Wow, it tastes better than I expected... I think it's because it's fresh bread... It's crunchy too.”
When he looked to the side, he saw Carmilla eagerly eating the bread with her little mouth.
She must have been so engrossed in eating that her nose was covered in honey.
He laughed, took out a handkerchief and wiped the bridge of her nose.
It was his first time serving someone else, but it wasn't a bad feeling: “Ma'am, eat slowly… and don't cover your whole face with honey.”
While wiping her nose, Carmilla's face turned bright red as he imitated her maid's speaking style as a joke.
He took a bite of bread from her and ate it.
'It doesn't taste bad...no, I like it...more than what I ate in the palace.'.
