Chapter 48: Leader of the Knights of Gloria, Jerome Crowner (1)
“Battle for the throne, ha.”
As soon as I heard that word, I felt as if the smell of blood hit my nose.
My features frowned at the harshness of the words that came out of the wise man’s mouth.
She said:
“Why would you say something so ominous?”
Sage smiled coldly:
“Ominous?” "I'm just telling the truth."
“His Highness Edwin only desires to have the power to be unaffected by others...”
Sage suddenly interrupted me sharply:
“He just wants to be strong?” If so, he will be devoured by his princely brothers before he achieves anything.”
To be “pure” means to be unbreakable.
But can Edwin, who has no support, pursue power “innocently”?
Saige said, folding his arms and raising his chin.
“I have heard that the Emperor only gives his full support to whomever he considers his legal heir. "Edwin has been left off that list for a long time."
Then sneered contemptuously:
“Then how do you intend to make that boy strong?” Are you going to make him crawl around his room like a duck? Or will you teach him the arts of killing like you?
My fists hardened.
“I…”
But he continued sarcastically:
“I don’t understand why you are suddenly playing the role of nanny for a prince. If you really want to fulfill his wishes, you must build the foundation first.”
He was right.
If I want to raise the prince free of interference and make him strong, I must have the support of the Emperor himself.
In other words, Edwin must catch the Emperor's attention.
This will not be achieved except by a step that makes him recognized as a prince.
'There is no other choice then.'
I raised my eyebrows and looked at him coldly.
“You said I had to build the foundation first, right?”
Sage was a little confused:
“N.. yes?” That's what I said, right?
“Even if you don't say so, this is what I intended from the beginning. So keep your useless advice to yourself.”
“My advice is useless, huh?”
He seemed surprised for a moment, but then he quickly came back to provoke me:
“So what's your plan?” Tell me. Do you think that His Majesty the Emperor will meet a governess for a child he has abandoned?”
I got angrier with every word.
“Or will you resort to your own way?” Are you waving a dagger in the dark at the Emperor, for example?
At that moment a thought crossed my mind: Maybe bringing this old man from the plague village was a huge mistake.
I said firmly:
“You said yourself that the prince needs another teacher.”
“True, but if you can find anyone at all. "I doubt anyone would dare teach him, for fear of the rest of the royal family."
She looked at him resolutely:
“No need to worry.” If there is no way, I will make one myself… just like I did when I saved you.”
Sage trembled for a moment at my words. Then he laughed nervously and said:
“Ha.. ha ha ha!” Girl, if you grind your teeth like that, they'll all fall out! Well, since our conversation is over, I guess I should get back to work. I remembered I had to prune the trees, haha!”
He quickly ran out of the library, avoiding my gaze.
As for me, I remained standing for a long moment, reorganizing my resolve.
'If it's just to break this old man's pride, I'll do it.'
I will make that boy, Edwin, strong...no matter what it takes.
The next day, I took advantage of a free period in Edwin's schedule and headed to the sub-ward.
Katherine said as she kneaded the dough in the kitchen in amazement:
“Shouldn’t someone who takes care of the bridesmaids do the kitchen work?”
I smiled lightly as I answered her:
“But Your Highnesses love my food so much that I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to.”
She raised her head curiously when she saw me:
“What brings you to the ward at this time, Nanny?” Did Her Highness Emilia ask you to play with her again and you ran away?”
I exhaled narrowly:
“Do I look like the type of person who would be afraid of a baby crawling on all fours?”
“So, did you quarrel with the gardener again?”
“A quarrel?” A mere gardener cannot be a match for a governess.”
She picked an apple from the basket and bit into it quietly.
Catherine looked at me sharply, then muttered:
“Don't be harsh on him. He is an old man who works all the time without rest. “My heart hurts seeing him like this.”
“It's tougher than you think, so don't worry.”
She insisted seriously:
“Sometimes I think you're cold, Nanny. Don't you know how weak adult bodies are? “Any minor injury or fatigue could be fatal to them.”
I didn't answer her. I just continued chewing the apple while thinking about my early death...the betrayal of my lover, the poisoned knife in my back, and the fire that consumed me.
Suddenly, Catherine approached me angrily:
“Nanny!” You're ignoring me again! Words go in one ear and out the other!
Her face was caked with flour until it almost looked like she was kneading dough with her face.
She wiped the flour from her cheek and said coldly:
“Wash your face first. If you had put it in the oven instead of dough, you would have come out with bread.”
I gasped:
“What a terrible joke!” Not funny at all!”
Then she sighed and continued:
“I was about to wash the curtains. I’ll wash my face on the way.”
I simply told her:
“I just stopped by to tell you I'm going out for a while.”
“Huh?” Are you leaving the palace again?
“No, not this time.”
“So where are you going?”
I threw the apple core into the basket and smiled mischievously:
“To the Knights of Gloria.”
Under the afternoon sun, the Gloria Knights headquarters looked majestic.
Red flags emblazoned with the golden lion logo hang from poles everywhere. The place was more luxurious and bright than even the prince's palace itself.
‘What insult is this to the imperial family?’
As I watched the building with my hands folded on my chest, a knight approached me at the gate.
He said with a smile:
“What a beautiful surprise to have a beautiful young woman visit us today. Did you come to see someone?
I almost bit my tongue at the flattering tone of his voice.
I was not used to a knight speaking to me politely; Either they attack me like monsters, or they tremble in fear.
I pretended to be calm and answered him:
“True.” “I have come to meet the Commander, Duke Jerome Crowner.”
The knight was confused and asked:
“W-what?” If you please, what is your relationship with the commander?
I did not answer the above, but simply said:
“I am the governess of His Highness the Third Prince, Rachel Brown.”
His eyes widened in even more astonishment.
But I continued coldly:
“I have a matter to discuss with the commander. May I come in?
He said after a moment:
“Wait a little while.” "I'll be right back."
Minutes later, he came back to lead me inside.
As soon as I entered, I was greeted by a lush garden covered in red roses.
'As I expected. The Crowner family crest is the red rose.'
I felt as if I was entering another palace within the imperial palace.
The knight led me to a luxurious reception room, where all the furniture was made of fine rosewood, and the curtains were of imported Asha silk.
I raised my lips in dissatisfaction, and I heard footsteps approaching.
'Here he is.'
The door opened wide, and a man with the majesty of a beast entered.
He said in a deep voice:
“So, we have a guest today?”
It's Jerome Crowner.
Commander of the Knights of Gloria, the Empress's only brother, and head of the House of Crowner.
