# 18

When Scarlett passed out as if she had fainted, Victor immediately began searching her room. It didn't make sense to him.
Victor, more than anyone at Salantir, was familiar with the tram technicians.
He believed that nobles, driven by short-term ambitions, committed follies. Although Salantir's neighboring countries were smaller in size, there was no guarantee that they would not wage wars.
Had he been a politician in a neighboring country, he would have considered Salantaire, which had recently been at war with pirates, a tempting prey.
However, for nearly ten years Salantir has been preoccupied with suppressing the progress of science, and even destroying what has been made of it.
Victor was opposed to war, which is why he saw a strong military force as necessary. The best way to avoid war is to strengthen military power.
He needed scientists and engineers, like the Count and his wife from the Crimson family, the great inventors who died in an accident. Therefore, he was secretly searching for these technicians, using the pretext of helping the police to inspect the broken down trams.
But there, inside a box, was Scarlett Crimson.
Their legitimate daughter, who had learned nothing from her uncle, repaired trams and made watches.
Eventually, Victor took advantage of Scarlett's panic attack and searched her room, finding what he found.
In Victor's office, his followers are gathered around the plans for the twin-winged plane, looking serious.
Balin opened his mouth: “Did the lady really draw it? Blueprints for a double-winged plane?”
"Yes."
Balin grabbed his red hair with both hands: "This is crazy. If she is discovered, the High Priest will make her a target. Religious fanatics will attack her. What was she thinking?"
Flying was strictly prohibited by religion.
Ivan, not knowing the hint, said: “Drawing diagrams does not mean it will succeed in flying. Logically, even the Count and his wife did not succeed in designing a double-winged aircraft.”
“Is this true?”
"But even if it doesn't fly, we should at least make a model. It will make it difficult for others to target Salantaire."
“True, we should claim that we have flying capabilities, even if it is a lie.”
Hope agreed from the side.
“But even making a model could put our lives in danger.”
Victor sat on the chair, watching his followers talk excitedly.
The Marine Special Forces unit on the Rubid ship was made up of talents that had been ected as air force personnel. Also, the army ected an air unit, but the death of the Count and his wife foiled the plans, so they remained as special units.
Despite their harsh training as flight candidates, all they have left is a glider that can fly for only 1 minute and 20 seconds in one direction if boarded by a sniper.
Ivan's words were matter-of-fact. Even exaggerating the presence of an aircraft might prompt Festina, who had been negotiating the war, to back down.
Victor rested his chin on his hand and lost himf in thought.
Sometimes he got angry about Scarlett leaving him.
Scarlett did everything for her husband, and often expressed her happiness in this marriage.
If her love is all about giving, then what about her leaving like she'll never see him again, and threatening to kill him if he shows up again?
Pathetically, he felt empty after losing what he had.
Victor laughed at himf for feeling so insignificant.
He never asked for her love, but when he got used to her overwhelming love, she left him and left. What is he supposed to do?
He opened his mouth: “If she was willing to endure execution, I painted her.”
There was silence at the table.
Victor added: “Why draw detailed plans if you don’t intend to make them?”
Balin, kind yet powerful, stammered: “But this is very dangerous...”
“Doesn’t the absence of an air force endanger all of Salantaire?”
“That's right”
Silence returned.
While his followers were disturbed, Victor asked Blight, "Does Scarlett have a good memory? Can she memorize diagrams she saw before the age of twelve?"
"I don't know."
Victor remembered Scarlett's clear eyes, and said to Blight: “Or is it possible for a person to suddenly remember something he saw in his childhood?”
“I don't know exactly”
Blight hesitated.
Victor remembered the day Scarlett was interrogated by the Royal Police.
Her behavior that day remains incomprehensible. It was unbelievable that she had been tortured, because if she had told him, the Royal Police would have been disbanded immediately.
